Record number of Turks flocking to Mecca 

The number of umrah-goers from Turkey reached a record of 421,000 in the first eight months of the year, according to figures from the Religious Affairs Directorate. The number was 180,931 during the whole year in 2009 and 278,554 in 2011.

Umrah is a pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, performed by Muslims, which can be taken at any time of the year unlike the Hajj, which is on a certain date.
